Apryl may not be a cop herself, but she'd been around them enough to pick up a few things. Namely when someone was trying to avoid a question. It wasn't really a big deal..some people just don't like talking about work. "If I did, would it work?" She grinned back. "'Besides, I'm sure you probably have someone waiting back home for ya...the interesting ones usually do."
Ah, that answered one of the questions and gave Apryl a question of her own. "So you're in law enforcement...either that or you spend a lot of time trolling the Deep Web." Another shot poured, and downed. "Me, killed someone? Not unless you count video games..and even then I'm not that good at it. As far as smashing things, I think it would be fun. If you're that worried, give them a nice tip."
"Nah, only if I'm desperate and sometimes not even then. I like creamer..Had a good blueberry coffee the other day that may not actually need much to be delicious." Apryl wondered what kind of field he was in. Looked like he kept in shape, so maybe law enforcement? Fireman? May as well ask, not usually an offensive question. "Since we might be stuck here a while, should probably introduce myself. I'm Apryl.."
Most of the people in line were either talking on their phones or scrolling through feeds, so Apryl didn't think anything of it. When the man behind her commented, she slipped the phone in her pocket and turned around. "It's not usually this bad. Not sure exactly what the deal is. But, yes, it's pretty good." Giving him a quick assessment, she continued. "I bet you're a black coffee kinda guy, aren't you?" He didn't strike her as the kind to mess with flavored coffee or creamer.
Apryl was in the middle of pouring another shot and looked over at him. Surprisingly enough, she still stopped pouring in time though she did give herself a double. "Wait a second..Thinking some people should die in the desert is a-ok, but you'd insist on cleaning up when you paid to make a mess?" She laughed, shaking her head. "Pretty sure they knew what they were getting into. Escape room does sound cool though. If you find one, lemme know and I'll go with you."
Apryl was pleased with herself when she had another idea. "You know what else is healthy? Breaking stuff.." Realizing how that sounded, she kept going before Scotty could interrupt her. "I read an article the other day about a place you can go and just break shit. They raid thrift stores and stock up on plates and junk. Customers can go in a private room and just destroy as much as you want. I wonder if they have anything like that around here."
Apryl strolled down the street, stifling a yawn with the back of her hand. It had been another late night as she watched a custom feed on the Pierson investigation. But now she had to pick up some coffee that couldn't be used to strip paint. Fortunately for her the coffee shop was just down the street. A stranger held the door for her as she stepped inside. Unfortunately, it looked as if she was going to be waiting a while. May as well check her phone while she waited. Cat memes, ranting about politics, blah blah blah. The line inched slowly forward..
A fellow nerd, she really should have guessed. "Heghlu'meH QaQ jajvam" (It is a good day to die in Klingon) followed by shaking your cane at the teenagers on your lawn?" Apryl's eyes lit up. "Pretty much the same, except throw in some good Netflix binges and video gaming.."
