   Violet rolled her eyes as she smiled at her son and gave him a hug. "I just didn't expect someone new to be here today but I'm glad you got Chuck some help."
   Richie gave his mom a hug. "Yeah well when Chuck told me you were picking up Cherry I figured you'd be interrogating her."
   "I'm, not, interrogating. Intimidating a little, maybe," she smiled to him. "But I brought cookies."
   "Mom, you always bring cookies."
   "Well when you don't," she glanced over to Kaella, " tell me about things I stress bake."

   Richie showed up almost as Kae was trying to hyper focus on work. "Hey mom," he said as he came in through the bay door. "I see you met Kae."
   "I did...." she frowned at her son.
   "Don't give me that shit mom."

   "I'll spend some time with Kaella then," Violet said giving Charlotte a smile.
   Charlotte nodded. "Twenty minutes," she said to the other woman before she started her way back into the bay.

   "Yes well I'm sure she is with Richie watching over her. Oh!" she said reaching into her purse and pulling out a tin of cookies and handing it to Chuck.
   "You are a god-send. I wish a shop could make cookies like you," Charlotte said. "Give me like twenty more minutes and Cherry will be set," Charlotte said.
   "Of course darling. I will just talk with," her eyes turned toward Kaella for her to interject her name.

    Violet clicked her tongue as she eyed the girl as if measuring her worth. "I think I'm going to be calling Richie," she said.
    Charlotte smiled and looked to Kaella. "She's been doing good," she promised.

   The next morning Kae was up early to make it to the shop when Richie told her his opening manager usually arrived. Since the shop itself didn't open until nine, it wasn't too bad. She still had her reservations about the whole thing, mostly because there was no avoiding one another during the days. But Richie had indicated he could pay under the table for extra hours beyond the legal limit for minors. And while she was sure he wasn't paying her as much as his previous receptionist, it was more than minimum wage so she figured she could roll with it. 
   When she got there she found the back door still locked and pounded her fist on the door to announce herself. 
   "This is weird," she muttered to herself as she looked around the back alley.

   Off days

   They had a rather slow day by the time the final call came up. They were leading up to a two day weekend where the pair planned to veg out on their couch with monster movies, beer and a pile of delivered food. Unfortunately, the call, while routine, went bad.
   A few of the perps were hopped up on a new street drug which made them erratic and they stood longer than their bodies should have. Like their head didn't get the message that they were dead.
   As the last one finally fell into a twitching pile on the ground Alice ran over to Seth to check him. They were both beaten worse than they had been in a while. Alice had was limping from a shot to her leg and she didn't even realize her arm or head was bleeding yet. Seth had been hit in the torso but his armor deflected that, it was the one into his side that had her worried. "Hey," she said slapping the side of his helmet. "Hey. You need to stay awake."
