Richard Redford Share Posted December 22, 2020 "What courier service?" he asked seemingly unconvinced as he set her pack aside and looked back to her. @Dragon
Kaella Corvus Author Share Posted December 22, 2020 Oh what the hell did he care anyway? Kae thought as she huffed softly. "Mojave Express." @Morrigan
Richard Redford Share Posted December 22, 2020 "Who is your contact over there?" he asked her. @Dragon
Kaella Corvus Author Share Posted December 22, 2020 "How would I know? It's gig work. Like Lyft or Doordash." @Morrigan
Richard Redford Share Posted December 22, 2020 "Even with that you have a name," Richie said. "Probably even a picture of the person you're dropping it off to." @Dragon
Kaella Corvus Author Share Posted December 22, 2020 "You've never used the M.E. have you?" Kae asked, watching intently as he rifled through her bag. Nothing in there was really worth a damn, save her documents, but it was all she had to live on, "Anonymity is the cornerstone of the platform. No P.I.I. involved in transactions." @Morrigan
Richard Redford Share Posted December 22, 2020 Richie didn't have to use services as his family had people for that. Payroll people were better to trust than a random person off the street, even if they weren't always the best to trust. "No, but I've heard rumors that they trade in a lot of stolen items." @Dragon
Kaella Corvus Author Share Posted December 23, 2020 He wasn't wrong. The whole cash-or-crypto based pay system was meant to facilitate moving items without leaving a paper trail. It created a system where honest people could have packages carried dirt cheap. Others... well, it made for expensive transport while giving them a scapegoat if the authorities intervened. The courier always took the fall in those instances. Granted, Kae wasn't technically doing a job for the Mojave Express. She was specifically doing this for the Nakado Syndicate. If she lost that box there was a lot more than a chunk of cash and a job at stake. "It's not my business what's in the boxes," she answered, "I'm just supposed to get them to the drop point. It could be drugs or jewelry or illegally imported meds for someone's kid. Look I didn't steal from you and I didn't damage anything. Your back door knob was already fucked up, so I took a chance to pick it. Just give me my shit and let me go, please." @Morrigan
Richard Redford Share Posted December 23, 2020 Richie narrowed his eyes at her. "But you stole something," he clarified. She said she hadn't stolen anything from him which almost sounded like she was admitting that she did steal something. @Dragon
Kaella Corvus Author Share Posted December 23, 2020 "What the fuck could I have stolen, you've just rifled through everything I've got," she scowled, "I didn't mean any harm being here. Just give me my stuff and let me go. You can have the cash in my wallet or whatever. I just want to finish my job." @Morrigan
Richard Redford Share Posted December 23, 2020 "I'm keeping this," he said indicating toward the box before he threw her pack back at her. "I'm giving it to the cops," he said to her. "You can get out of here," he indicated toward the garage doors. "I'll open them up." @Dragon
Kaella Corvus Author Share Posted December 23, 2020 "What? No! I have to finish the delivery," she protested. @Morrigan
Richard Redford Share Posted December 23, 2020 "One missed delivery isn't going to do you any wrong," he pulled out his wallet and threw a hundred bucks in her direction. "Probably more than you'd get paid for it anyways." @Dragon
Kaella Corvus Author Share Posted December 23, 2020 "They'll cut off my gig claim, this is the only work I've got," she protested. @Morrigan
Richard Redford Share Posted December 23, 2020 "Should have gone into someone else's shop. You're lucky I didn't shoot you on sight," he said to him. @Dragon
Kaella Corvus Author Share Posted December 23, 2020 Kae glared at him, tightening her jaw as she pulled her pack back on, "Open the door then." @Morrigan
Richard Redford Share Posted December 23, 2020 Richie picked up the box before he moved over to the button that opened up the garage door. He pressed it and the metal began to churn as it pulled itself up and rolled at the top of the garage door. @Dragon
Kaella Corvus Author Share Posted December 23, 2020 She cast a last look at the box, feeling her stomach churn. As soon as the door was half open she darted out and started a fast pace down the alley. The panic built as she moved. Now the cops were the least of her concerns. Now she owed a shit load of money to one of the most notorious crime families in the city. "Oh fuck," Kae breathed aloud to herself as she searched her mind for somewhere she could go and just catch her breath for a moment. @Morrigan
