   It felt like both, honestly. Kae hadn't really wanted to meet any more of the Redford. She just wanted to figure out what angle he was playing and what exactly he wanted from her.
   But for now she was just happy for the intervention. Hopefully she hadn't given anything away.

   After a few seconds Kae pretended to busy herself by looking over the day's bookings in the shop's scheduling system. 
   She hoped this wasn't going to be a frequent thing.

   The next morning Kae was up early to make it to the shop when Richie told her his opening manager usually arrived. Since the shop itself didn't open until nine, it wasn't too bad. She still had her reservations about the whole thing, mostly because there was no avoiding one another during the days. But Richie had indicated he could pay under the table for extra hours beyond the legal limit for minors. And while she was sure he wasn't paying her as much as his previous receptionist, it was more than minimum wage so she figured she could roll with it. 
   When she got there she found the back door still locked and pounded her fist on the door to announce herself. 
   "This is weird," she muttered to herself as she looked around the back alley.

   I hate my job

   Richie and Kae had fallen into an odd sort of routine which was primarily avoidance unless they had to. Like when he had Penny clear the girls past discretions from the police database and got her valid ID and made his mom her guardian.
   It had taken a few weeks before she got a job but she did which was a step in the right direction.
   Richie was having to placate his girlfriend by going to her house after work a few nights a week instead of the other way around which made his days longer and longer, especially on nights that he had late work.
   It was a day he had off so he was in his apartment when he heard the door slide open.

   More Clouds

   Richie eventually cancelled the apartment contract when she didn't show up for two weeks figuring she had taken off and it wasn't worth the time to go chasing her. If she wanted to live on the streets he couldn't fight that battle forever. He couldn't force her to trust his generosity.
   Not that he blamed her in a way but it shut him down and he was grouchy than normal.
   It was nearly a fight with his girlfriend to get him to get out of the house and into the club. She wanted to cheer him up and he was brooding which wasn't super odd for him but he didn't figure how he felt mattered. Normally didn't matter to anyone else either.
   It was about an hour in, he was relaxed. had the start of a decent buzz going on and his girlfriend was being attentive to at least the more carnal appetites of his as she invited him out onto the dance floor to shake her ass for him.

   Black Cloud

   Two weeks really wasn't enough time off for the injuries they sustained, but all the same Seth and Alice were back on the beat. Their first few days had been uneventful. Then they'd been called in on another narcotics bust. 
   It didn't go as badly as the first had. Most of the perps left the scene in cuffs rather than body bags. But Alice's leg had been injured again. 
   It made for the first close call since they'd gotten the news that their speculations about parenthood were going to be realities in just a few months. So a job that Seth usually wouldn't have thought twice about left him thoroughly shaken as all the worst possibilities hit him. 
   That swiftly switched gears to anger when he found himself processing some kid who's first ID scan flagged as a fake. Of course that turned into an ordeal in and of itself, one that only left him further irate when he demanded a home address... that registered under his brother's name. Same complex, different apartment.  
   So while Alice left to go get her leg treated, Seth cuffed the kid and hauled her off to Richie's apartment where he was no standing outside, holding a sullen Kaella firmly by the scruff of the neck.

   Just my luck

   Scotty eventually called Seth, a few days later to tell him that the girl had went to the syndicate and that Seth owed him because she disappeared for a few days. His facial recognition program just 'happened' to pick her up on a local feed. He added that he would not be hacking into the Syndicate's network to triple check.
   Seth would call and tell Richie and that's why he would be there when Anoco called Kae for another of her trashy gigs.
   Richie had the box and was on the couch when Kae would show up.
   "So you two know each other?" Anoco asked Kae, the woman was clearly displeased.

   Bad luck

   Richie had figured the girl would eventually circle back around for the box if it was important to her, her job or her client. He still figured she was lying to him but instead of turning it over or throwing it out he kept it and made sure to keep it charged in case whatever was inside of it required it.
   That night he had a meeting with a few of the middle men that dealt the drugs for his family. They were getting a new distribution and airing any grievances for pay or workload or whatever and it was Richie's job to field them or pass them on to his parents.
   It was about halfway through it that he got a notification on his watch that someone was trying to access the back door. When he pulled up the feed he noted that it was the girl. He excused himself and as she came inside he grabbed her, pulling her in close and covering her mouth.
   It was a swift move to put her into his office. "If you know what's good for you, you'll keep quiet," he said pointing at her before locking her inside.

   Get Low

   Kae would be able to stay low and off of the radar for a few weeks before a Syndicate snitch would find her. When they did it wouldn't be long before someone would pick her up expecting her to get into the proffered vehicle.
   The person that grabbed her wouldn't be particularly talkative before she was escorted into the Nakada Syndicate home and out the back to a luxurious garden where the middle child of the Nakada sisters would be standing pruning flowers.
   Kae would be left with the woman who hadn't acknowledged her yet.

   Zydrate Anatomy

   The job had seemed easy enough. Kae didn't know exactly what it was. Some kind of cybernetic organ or transplant of some sort. She just had to snatch the container and deliver it to her employer. Some high dollar black market buyer wanted it, and there was plenty of downstream cash fall involved. 
   If everything had gone smoothly it would have been a pretty quick in and out. Except it didn't quite go smoothly. At the last minute she'd realized they'd given her the wrong kind of container to swap out. 
   She'd done it anyway, but someone had noticed the difference too quickly and now she was ducking through allies avoiding cops. They were getting close and she was running out of places to hide. 
   Finally she found a door with a loose handle outside an autobody shop. Kae fumbled to pick the lock as she heard voices echoing loudly off the walls behind her. She got it open just in the nick of time, pushing her way into the shop and quickly shutting the door just before two officers came around a corner. 
   She ducked down against the wall, catching her breath and listening intently. She could hear the cops as they got close to the door. Kae gnawed on her lip anxiously as she listened, barely breathing despite the walls between them. They got close to the door and shone their lights through the dusty bay windows, but never tried to handle. Eventually they separated and went off down opposite ends of the alley. 
   Kae exhaled and sat up to shrug off her pack to change into a new shirt and hoddie. Just in case they'd gotten a look at what she was wearing before she'd squeezed out.
